Phosphatidic acid (PA) serves as a lipid second messenger. It can control membrane shape. It is known to participate in cell proliferation, vesicular trafficking, cytoskeletal organization and signal transduction. PA can stimulate negative curvature in lamellar lipid structures. It can block the enzymatic activity of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1)
